Target Species – Ottertail Tail Guide Service, Minnesota
At Ottertail Tail Guide Service, we specialize in targeting some of the most sought-after freshwater fish in Minnesota. Our trips are designed around seasonal movements and feeding patterns to help you land walleye, northern pike, crappie, bluegill, and perch. Each species brings its own style of fishing, and our local expertise ensures you’re in the right place at the right time. Whether you’re after a limit of eater-size walleye or looking to introduce your kids to the fun of catching panfish, we’ve got the know-how and gear to make it happen.
When to Fish and What to Expect
Walleye is the primary focus for most of our trips, especially from the Minnesota walleye opener in May through October. Early mornings, evenings, and night trips are prime time for these predators, and we often switch tactics throughout the season—from trolling crankbaits to casting custom-colored jigs. Spring and fall are also great for northern pike, while crappie and bluegill are especially active in the shallows during early summer and late ice-out periods. We guide on multiple lakes in Otter Tail County, allowing us to pivot to the best waterbody based on species and conditions.
Whether you're planning a serious angling trip or a family-friendly fishing experience, knowing what species to target—and when—makes all the difference. With our seasonal insight and daily water time, we take the guesswork out of fishing in Minnesota. Now’s the best time to book a trip, especially during peak action months like May, June, and September. Let us know what you want to catch, and we’ll build a trip around it!
